Sean W. Thomas ’81, of Lakewood, Ill., was awarded the Distinguished Service Citation in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the College. Thomas is a Negotiations and Contract Leader at Aon Hewitt in Lincolnshire, Ill., where he has participated in the design, administration, and monitoring of benefit plans for large corporate clients. He has long been active with the College's Career Services' programs, mentoring students and participating in several workshops and volunteer opportunities. Thomas has also volunteered many times with the Admissions Office, participating during Campus Visit Days.
Robin L. McCarley ’86 of Prairieville, La., was awarded the Richard W. Hantke Alumni Teacher Award. The Richard W. Hantke Alumni Teacher Award is presented on those occasions when the College wishes to recognize a graduate who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the field of education. Like the educator, scholar, and gentleman that this award memorializes, Professor Richard Hantke, it honors those who have dedicated themselves to the principles of life-long learning.
McCarley is a Professor of Chemistry at Louisiana State University, where he has co-authored research grants that have brought over $20 million in research funding to LSU. McCarley has received numerous academic and teaching awards, including the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh Award in 1993, the LSU College of Basic Sciences Award of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in 2002, and the LSU Distinguished Faculty Award in 2003.
S. Anthony McCann ’66 of Silver Spring, Md., was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Leadership Award. This award is presented to alumni who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their profession or avocation that affirms the value of a liberal arts education and brings honor to Lake Forest College. McCann has managed finances for the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the state of Maryland's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and the Smithsonian Institute. Thomas served the College has a Trustee from 1998-2006 and has been an active College volunteer.
The Lake Forest College Alumni Association awards program showcases the Lake Forest College mission statement as a living document that encourages the College community to recognize the value of a liberal arts education, "honor achievement," and "celebrate the personal growth that accompanies the quest for excellence."
